As we have begun the Summer of 2010 in Gig Harbor our days of sunshine are far and few between, but the gifts of the “gods” are upon us when a special Rainbow lights up the Gig Harbor Bay to brighten our days. After living in the Gig Harbor area for more than 26 years raising a daughter and having a successful real estate career helping residents with their sales and purchases, I have grown accustom to our changes in weather and enjoy the special place that the Pacific Northwest is in the world. Looking for those bright spots in our days or our lives is a special blessing and I always hope that the gift of sharing and giving in always in our hearts. Tall Ships in Gig Harbor

Hawaiian Chieftain Visits Gig Harbor Bay

While in route to Port Townsend, WA for the Wooden Boat Festival Sept 5-7, 2008, the Hawaiian Chieftain visits Gig Harbor Bay on the dock of Arabella’s landing. What a treat to walk aboard this replica of a typical European merchant trader at the turn of the 19th century. The hull shape and rigging are similar to the ships of the Spanish explorers during the late 18th century. The ship is 104 feet and built in 1988; it is a Topsail Ketch from Aberdeen, Washington. To see it this today stop by the downtown Marina of Arabella’s Landing and to see it this weekend take a short drive to Port Townsend. Another wonderful Tall Ship moored in Gig Harbor is the Amazing Grace; a Top Sail Schooner; 83 feet built in 1991 and is similar to the American Revolution ships that fought the British during the War of 1812.

We live in such a great small Harbor that has boats and ships for all to enjoy! This September should bring the “Indian Summer” weather that blesses this great town of Gig Harbor. : Watch out from above!

The beautiful evenings of the Puget Sound are a great way to experience nature around your neighborhood. While strolling for an evening walk in Rosedale near Allen Point, I came upon an owl sitting in the road. As I approached he flew up on a branch approximately 10 feet off the ground to get out of the way. Being curious, and “adaptive”, I stopped to admire and “talk” to the owl. As I began to continue my walk, I heard some tremendous flapping from behind and turned around to see the owl diving at my head, then cruised to another tree across the lane. Still walking and now on “alert” the owl took another dive at my head. With arms wailing and noises of startled events, I scared the owl away for a second time. Now, continuing my journey, I am walking or running sideways to watch a possible third attack and here the owl comes. One more swoop, before he has either warned me to stay away or decided that I am not dinner. Either way, a thrill of a lifetime and I do not believe ” life threatening”. When we live in the Pacific Northwest in the rural community of the upscale Gig Harbor, it is always a lesson, to look around at nature and enjoy our surroundings. For those of you who have friends in the city, any city, tell the tales of nature as you experience them and hopefully they will join you as neighbors in this wonderful community of Gig Harbor.
